Unusual Garage Door Issues and the Services That Can Help

There are garage door services for installation, repair, and even replacement. There are also less common garage door services, but these are equally as helpful as the more common services previously mentioned. Those services, and what they entail, are as follows.

Power Washing

Vandals do terrible things to garage doors. Birds and bats leave their feces on garage doors as well. Whatever unsightly or disturbing mess you have on your garage door, regardless of what put it there or what the mess is made of, a professional power wash will remove it. Your garage door will be restored to its original color and cleanliness with power washing.

Sealing Bats Out

Bats love garages. The rafters are the perfect place to hang out and sleep all day. It may be great housing for them, but it is a really bad idea for your garage and your vehicles. That is because of all the bat urine, bat guano, and potential for rabies. If you want to keep the bats out, your garage door should have a rubber gasket seal all along the top edge of the door and along the very bottom edge as well. Bats, like mice, are very good at squeezing themselves through narrow spaces. If you have this rubber seal at both the top and bottom of your garage door, the bats cannot get into your garage. If you do not know how to install these seals, ask a garage door repair technician to do it for you.

Doors That Open Too Easily

Garage doors that open too easily because they are so lightweight are exactly the kinds of doors that thieves are looking for. While you do not have to make a door heavier to make it more secure, you can add a locking handle that will make it impossible to get into your garage. This lock and its mechanism can be installed by either a locksmith or a garage door technician who has some experience in installing these types of locks. Then it does not really matter how light and easy the door is to open because the lock does the trick.

Frozen in Place

With all of the heavy snowstorms and ice this winter, you may encounter a garage door that is literally frozen shut. Clearly, you cannot wait until the weather warms up enough to leave your home and get the car out of the garage. The solution is rather simple. A liquid deicing product, such as a windshield wiper fluid with deicer, or a few bottles of rubbing alcohol, can be applied to some of the moving parts of the garage door, along the seams of the panels of the door, and right along the bottom rubber seal. The alcohol/antifreeze content in these products will immediately loosen up the garage door and allow it to open.
