You just never know what can happen at any given time – you just never know when your teenager will pull the car too far forward and smash into the garage door or when your spouse will hit a rock with the mower and send it flying through the garage door. Here, you'll find a few tips that can help you conceal the repairs that have been made to your garage door.
Fresh Paint
A fresh coat of paint will improve the look of the garage door overall. As long as the damage is repaired properly, the blemish will barely be visible unless you know where to look for it.
The key to getting the paint to go on evenly is to clean the garage door before you apply a coat of primer, followed by paint. If you were to paint over a dirty garage door and not use primer, the finish will be bumpy and it might not be as uniform as it could be.
Gel Stain
If you don't want a painted garage door, you do have the option of applying a coat of gel stain to it. The gel stain will make it look better and protect it from the sun and other harsh weather elements.
Before you apply any gel stain, get a jug of mineral spirits and clean the door entirely with it. After you've cleaned the entire door, rinse it well and allow it to dry fully before you begin applying the stain.
After the stain is applied, apply at least one coat of sealant.
Magnetic Vinyl Covers
Recently, manufacturers have begun creating magnetic vinyl covers for garage doors. You measure the garage door, punch in your measurements on the website, and order the covers of your choice. You can transform your outdated, old garage door into a beautiful door in very little time. And if you decide to move, you can remove the covers and take them with you. If the new garage door is smaller than the old one, you'll be able to trim the covers so that they'll fit properly.
Talk with your local garage door repair technician to find help repairing the damage that's been done. He or she will help you find the solution to the problem and restore your garage door to its original beauty. Hopefully, when it's all said and done, you'll be pleased with the finished results and won't have to do any further repairs anytime soon.
